Skeleton Identified As Missing Hiker

From Staff And Wire Reports

One of two skeletons found near Stevens Pass has been identified as the remains of a Seattle teenager who disappeared on a hike in 1988.

The remains were identified as those of Richard Joseph Mitchell, 18, the King County medical examiner’s office said Saturday.

A second skeleton also was found near Tye Lake last week.

The medical examiner’s office said those bones had not yet been identified.

Mitchell and Alan Etherington, 18, of Seattle disappeared during a hike on Jan. 21, 1988.
