Caps Sign Housley

Compiled From Wire Services

Phil Housley, one of the NHL’s top two-way defensemen with Buffalo and Winnipeg, joined the Washington Capitals.

He signed a three-year contract a league source said makes Housley, 32, the highest-paid player in club history. Housley, a 14-year NHL veteran, was a Group 3 free agent, meaning the Capitals owe his previous team no compensation.
