Ground Water Rules To Be Discussed
Idaho’s proposed new rules for protecting ground water will be discussed in a workshop and public hearing Wednesday.
The workshop will be held at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m. at the Kootenai County Cooperative Extension Building, 106 E. Dalton Ave. A public comment period on the proposed new regulations runs from Aug. 7 to Sept. 6.
The proposed new rules are an outgrowth of the Idaho Ground Water Quality Plan, adopted by the Legislature in 1992. The legislation sets standards for biological, radiological, and chemical substances in the water.
The proposed rules would implement those standards and set specific limits for each of those elements.
Officials from the Idaho Division of Environmental Quality have been working with representatives of industry, government, water users, environmental groups and soil conservation districts to develop the proposed rule.
