Woman’s Hand Cut In Boating Accident

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 22-year-old Hayden woman was taken to the hospital Monday after a boating accident left her with her hand cut to the bone.

Kristen N. McGough was boating on Hayden Lake with Michael R. DeHerrera, 28, of Spirit Lake, and Jason Petersen, 21, of Coeur d’Alene, when the accident happened about 3:15 p.m.

DeHerrera was driving the boat, according to a Kootenai County sheriff’s report.

McGough was thrown from the boat when DeHerrera suddenly turned the craft as they hit a wake from another boat, according to the report.

While in the water, the boat prop slashed McGough’s hand. DeHerrera and Petersen pulled McGough from the water and took her to Tobler’s Marina, where they met emergency personnel.

McGough was being treated at Kootenai Medical Center. Alcohol was involved, but to what extent has not yet been determined, according to the sheriff’s report.

No citations had been issued as of Monday afternoon.
