Lillieth Huntley Silverton, Idaho

Memorial service for Lillieth F. Huntley, 102, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Silver Wood Good Samaritan Center in Silverton. Shoshone Funeral Service in Wallace is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Huntley, who was born in Wisconsin, died Thursday. She attended several colleges in Wisconsin and obtained a master’s degree in speech pathology in Milwaukee, Wis., where Alexander Graham Bell was the guest speaker at her commencement ceremony.

She had worked as a speech teacher in many towns in Wisconsin before moving to Spokane in 1930. She continued to work with the hearing and speech impaired and later moved to Silverton in 1990.

Survivors include friends Laura Higgins of Silverton and Mary Ann and Jack Hull of Wallace.

Joann Crowther Spokane

Memorial Mass for Joann (Schimmels) Crowther, 72, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Crowther, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

She graduated from Marycliff High School and Sacred Heart School of Nursing.

She married James Crowther after World War II. He preceded her in death.

She had lived in Spokane, Billings, Mont., and California before she returned to Spokane five years ago.

Mrs. Crowther is survived by a son, Greg Crowther of Folsom, Calif.; two brothers, Ervin Schimmels of Spokane and Charles Schimmels of Camarillo, Calif.; four sisters, Rosella Weidner of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Doris Farrell of Mercedes, Texas, Lois Shaw of Moses Lake and Lolly Rothrock of Spokane; and a granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Caroline Richardson Hayden Lake, Idaho

Private memorial service for Caroline Rogers Richardson, 85, will be at a later date. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Richardson, who was born in Roseburg, Ore., died Sunday.

She was raised in Spokane, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School. She attended Dominican College in California and received a degree in journalism.

She had worked as an editor, writer and photographer and began a newspaper career by writing a horse-racing column for the Spokane Press.

She also toured South America as a roving correspondent for the Transradio Press before returning to the United States as a writer-photographer for Town and Country Magazine in New York. She later became the West Coast editor of The Woman Magazine.

Mrs. Richardson began a broadcasting career as editor of The Voice of a Nation on NBC, later joining the story department at MGM Studios. In 1955 she became an associate editor of The Reader’s Digest, where she worked for 28 years before her semiretirement.

Survivors include her husband, Keith; a stepson, John Richardson of Spokane; three stepdaughters, Susanne Shepard of California, and Jackie Peterson and Kay Edmonds, both of Spokane; a sister, Kay Peterson of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Rosemary Ashby Hayden Lake, Idaho

No service will be held for Rosemary Ashby, 52. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ashby, who was born in Sacramento, Calif., died Monday.

She was raised and educated in California, moving to Hayden Lake in 1978.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; one son, Randy Ashby of Coeur d’Alene; one daughter, Lynette Fiedler of Hayden Lake; five brothers; one sister; and one grandson, Dustin Ashby.

Memorials may be made to Huntington’s disease research.

Mark Benson Post Falls

Graveside service for Mark Allen Benson, 18, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Benson, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Monday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Post Falls.

He grew up in Post Falls and would have been a senior this fall at Post Falls High School.

He had worked as a paper carrier for the Coeur d’Alene Press for three years and also had been employed by Zero Defects in Post Falls until last month. He was a member of the Post Falls Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Richard and Peggy Benson; one sister, Marie Benson, at home; his grandparents, Wayne and Karen Laabs of Spokane, Joan Laabs of Mead, and Gladys and Norman Benson of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and two greatgrandmothers, Jennie Migota of Post Falls and Martha Laabs of Coeur d’Alene.

Memorials may be made to the School for the Deaf and Blind in Coeur d’Alene.

Joy ‘Bernice’ Bailey Spokane

Service for Joy B. Bailey, 62, is set for 11 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Shilo Hills Ward. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Idaho Falls, Mrs. Bailey died Friday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 27 years.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Shilo Hills Ward.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband of 39 years, Albert Bailey; two sons, Wayne Bailey of Germany and Leroy Bailey of Spokane; her father, Joy Bernell Marchant of Moscow, Idaho; three brothers, Maurice Marchant of Nampa, Idaho, Lynn Marchant of Lewiston and David Marchant of Coeur d’Alene; five sisters, Rose Gentry and Phylis Slater, both of Spokane, Sarah Platt of Caldwell, Idaho, Verna Beldon of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Leloa Rush of Pocatello, Idaho; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Carey Spokane

Vigil service for Mary L. Carey, 69, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Trentwood.

Mrs. Carey, who was born in Ruthven, Iowa, died Friday.

She graduated from high school in Ruthven and from St. Joseph’s College of Nursing in Mason City, Iowa.

During World War II she participated in the cadet nursing program.

She moved to Spokane from Pullman in 1974 and worked for the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Spokane for 17 years as a registered nurse before retiring in 1994.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Carey of Spokane and Mary Sementi of Coeur d’Alene; a son, Tim Carey of Spokane; a brother, Don Anderson of Spencer, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

Wilma Davidson Sandpoint

Memorial service for Wilma Gertrude Davidson, 72, was held Tuesday at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Davidson, who was born in Oregon, died Saturday.

She grew up and attended school in Arkansas, later moving to California. She moved to Sandpoint in 1962.

Mrs. Davidson was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, in 1956.

Survivors include seven children, Dan Evans, Mark Fuller, Paul Fuller and Lisa Fuller, all of Sandpioint, Candace Miller of California, Fred Fuller of Kootenai, Idaho, and Merrie Finley of Tahuya, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
