Schuck’s Auto Planning Moves Of Existing Stores To New Sites
Schuck’s Auto Supply is planning to move its three Valley stores to newer, bigger locations.
The Schuck’s currently at 4123 E. Sprague would move to 4501 E. Sprague, said Janice Behrens, assistant to the company’s director of real estate in Phoenix. The store at 2204 N. Argonne would move to 9600 E. Sprague.
The moves are tentatively planned to happen in 60 to 90 days, Behrens said.
Kevin Paxson, acting district manager for Schuck’s stores here, said the company also plans to open a store in the former Kelly-Moore Paints building at 14617 E. Sprague. That store would replace the Schuck’s at Sprague and Bowdish, Paxson said.
Schuck’s is owned by Northern Automotive Corporation. The Phoenix-based company is one of the largest vendors of auto parts in the nation, operating the Schuck’s, Checker and Kragen auto parts stores.
Of Northern’s 550 stores, 105 of them are Schuck’s.
Travel company sold
Lilac Travel, 1225 N. Argonne, was purchased three weeks ago by Global Travel.
Boise-based Global will move Lilac’s three-person staff to its Valley location, 10020 E. Sprague.
Rosalie Miller, Global’s regional sales and marketing manager, said Lilac was purchased to diversify the services offered at Global’s Valley location.
“Lilac had a great deal of expertise in international travel and selling leisure travel, and Global has been pretty much renowned for corporate travel,” Miller said.
The staff move should happen during early July. Miller said she doesn’t know what will happen to the leased space currently occupied by Lilac.
Lilac was founded four years ago by John F. Kimsey, whose father owns K-C Properties. Kimsey will continue on at Global handling business development and consulting for the company.
Global now operates 21 locations in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
The oil it is a-changin’
Notice a big green “Q” out front of the Valley Minit-Lube locations?
The businesses are now called Q Lube. The big green-and-white signs were put up two weeks ago.
Q Lube is the new name that will be given to all the company-owned Minit-Lube stores. The “Q” refers to Quaker State, the company that owns the Minit-Lube franchise.
Quaker State purchased four Spokane-area Minit-Lubes back from a franchisee in December, said Mike Dawson, an assistant manager at the 13021 E. Sprague location.
The Q Lubes will hold grand re-openings on June 4.
In addition to the Valley shops on Sprague and at 1414 N. Argonne, Quaker State also purchased the Minit-Lubes at 6309 N. Wall and 9412 N. Newport Highway.
Jerry Stauffer, who owns Minit-Lubes at 1430 N. Division and 4501 S. Regal, said his stores will keep the Minit-Lube name.
Storage business opens
River Bend Storage recently opened at 12009 E. Empire Way.
The business, operated by Rebecca Von Rotz, offers indoor storage for boats and RVs.
Von Rotz said she thinks that with Liberty Lake, Newman Lake and Lake Coeur d’Alene nearby, she won’t have problems filling spaces.
“There’s a great need for boat storage, especially indoors,” she said.
Von Rotz said she intends to install “racks” in both River Bend buildings. Stacking will allow storage of about 185 boats in each building.
