Cfa Votes Itself Out

Compiled From Wire Services

The College Football Association, the lobbying group that helped broker big-money television contracts for its members, is going out of business after this season.

The CFA, which began in 1977 as a way for top football powers to gain a greater voice within the NCAA, was voted out of existence by its board of directors. The organization will disband on June 30, 1997.

In addition to the NCAA restructuring conferences, another factor in the CFA’s demise probably was the end of the CFA’s television contract with ABC-ESPN after the 1995 season.
