Singleton Sentenced

Compiled From Wire Services

Former UTEP running back Toraino Singleton was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being sentenced to 12 years in prison on a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon - his fists.

The Buccaneers, who signed the 6-foot-3, 230-pound tailback in April, released him after hearing about the sentence, handed down in El Paso, Texas.

Singleton was accused in May 1994 of breaking the nose of Daniel Driscoll and fracturing the jaw of David Santaella during a fight in an alleyway outside a restaurant.

The Houston Oilers agreed to terms with veteran punter Reggie Roby on a four-year contract worth $2.7 million. The Oilers also signed former Rice quarterback Donald Hollas, who is expected to back up Chris Chandler and Steve McNair.
