Black Bear Wanders Into Va Dormitory

Associated Press

A black bear was on his way back to the woods Sunday after wandering through the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary.

A VA police officer spotted the bear wandering through a set of automatic doors into the patient dormitory.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife sent a biologist and Jackson County Fire District 3 sent a crew. They chased the bear out of the building and shot it with a tranquilizer dart, but instead of falling asleep, it climbed a tree. They shot the bear again, but it still didn’t crawl down. They got a net and shot it a third time, catching it when it fell.

The bear will be tagged and released into the wild, state biologist Marv Wolfer said.
