Bill Targets Drunken Boaters

Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

The House passed a bill on Tuesday that would force drunken boat operators and airplane pilots to bear the burden of damages they cause, even if they have no money.

Bankruptcy court would provide no escape, no fresh start.

If approved by the Senate and signed into law, the bill would make bankrupt violators carry their debt for life, or until it is paid.

The House measure defines boats and airplanes as “motorized vehicles,” which would put operators who drink in the same category as drunken drivers.
