Report: Calipari To Coach Nets

John Calipari, who led Massachusetts to the Final Four last season, has agreed to coach the New Jersey Nets, radio station WFAN reported Wednesday night.

The all-sports station, citing two undisclosed sources, said Calipari has agreed to a five-year contract, and the announcement is to come today or Friday.

The hiring would come six days after Kentucky coach Rick Pitino rejected the Nets’ offer to become coach, general manager and partowner. Although financial terms were not reported, Calipari clearly would not be earning the $25 million that Pitino was offered.
