Jess Hawk Oakenstar is a musical sponge who has absorbed a diverse assortment of styles.

She plays country. She plays folk. She plays rock. She plays world music. And the singer-guitarist often employs all of those in just one song.

The Phoenix-based Oakenstar has recorded two albums - 1992’s “Leave a Little Light Behind” and 1994’s “Your Heart Will Show You.” Both have garnered the singer favorable praise from critics throughout the world.

During her career, the musician, originally from Zimbabwe, has played all over the world. She lived in New Zealand for 10 years, where she developed a name for herself both there and in Australia.
