Gig Harbor Official Named To State Post

The Commission on Student Learning has chosen Marlene Hoylater, an assistant superintendent at the Peninsula School District in Gig Harbor, Wash., to be its interim executive director.

Hoylater replaces Terry Bergeson, who resigned effective June 11 to run for state superintendent.

Hoylater, 56, will make $85,000 annually. Her contract will expire March 1, 1997. A former teacher, principal and university professor, Hoylater has experience in test design.

The commission is a state agency charged with raising academic standards for Washington public school children. It was created by the 1993 education reform law.
