World Champ Gains Tie

World road champion Abraham Olano of Spain took over the pink jersey as overall leader in the Tour of Italy following a dramatic 20th stage in the Alps.

Olano edged Pavel Tonkov by 1 second in finishing fourth at the Pordoi Pass and tied the Russian in the overall standings with only two stages left.

Organizers awarded the pink jersey to the 26-year-old Spaniard on the basis of a .046-second advantage Olano had picked up Thursday in a time test.
