Kenneth Privratsky Attains Rank Of Brigadier General

Kenneth L. Privratsky, commander of Defense Distribution Region East, has been promoted to brigadier general.

Privratsky, son of Mrs. Louis Privratsky, Spokane, is a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and Eastern Washington State University.

His past assignments include service with the 6th Infantry Division, 2nd Armored Division, 193rd Infantry Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division and in Vietnam the 101st Airborne Division. He was also an assistant professor of English at the U.S. Military Academy.

Before assuming his command at the DDRE, he was chief of the Strategic Mobility Division in the Office of the Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics in the Pentagon.

Paul Spangler, a Ferris High School sophomore, has been selected as one of 100 students nationwide for the 1996 Japan-America Friendship Scholars Program by the Youth For Understanding International Exchange.

Spangler will spend six weeks in Japan studying the Japanese language and culture.

He is a member of the Ferris Symphonic and Saxon Knight choirs and is the son of Vicki and Philip Spangler.

Brian Jensen, Spokane, received the Outstanding Senior in Economics and Business Award for Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Jensen helped research, write and edit a book on mutual funds with a financial planner. He was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society for academic achievement, and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national honor society for leadership.

Julie Humphreys, a news reporter for KHQ-TV, tied for second place in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Education Awards.

Humphreys was recognized for her story, “The MS Walk.”

Gerald S. Lowry has been promoted to the rank of senior airman with the Air Force. Lowry is a communications-computer systems operator at Travis Air Force Base, Calif.

A 1993 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, he is the son of Chester P. Lowry, Spokane, and Shirley M. Golden, Greenacres.

Alice P. Fary Armbruster has been named an All-American Scholar by the U.S. Achievement Academy. Armbruster, who maintains a 3.8 grade-point average, was named to the National Dean’s List for the 1994-‘95 academic year and is a member of Psi Chi Honor Society. She graduated magna cum laude from Eastern Washington University.

Tammie Williams, Goldendale, Wash., a graduating senior cadet at Gonzaga University who is being commissioned into military service, has been awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution’s ROTC Medal.

She was selected by her professors for demonstrating qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline and leadership ability.

Nicholas Hebb is the winner of the $500 Padgett Business Services Scholarship. He is a student at Mead High School and the son of David and Barbara Hebb. He plans to attend Stanford University in the fall.

Three students received Lincoln Middle School Student of the Month Honors for April by the Pullman Kiwanis Club. Each student received a certificate, a T-shirt and $20, half of which is to be donated to a cause of the students’ choice.

The students are: Alison Brown, sixth grade, daughter of Kathy and Kelly Brown; Jason Wickard, seventh grade, son of Roe and Gerald Wickard; and Brent Harvey, eighth grade, son of Marilyn and John Harvey.

Second Lt. Tonya M. Crane was selected as Company Grade Officer of the Quarter for January-March 1996 at the 39th Flight Test Squadron, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.

Crane is a 1990 graduate of North Central High School and a 1994 graduate of Seattle University. She is the daughter of Chuck and Anna Mae Luther, Spokane.
