Biological Weapons Plant Being Torn Down

Compiled From Wire Services

Iraqi officials and U.N. experts have begun dismantling a major biological weapons factory near Baghdad, a move called for under international sanctions imposed after Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

Thanks in part to information provided after a high-level Iraqi official defected, a U.N. commission found there was “no use” for the Al-Hakam plant other than to make biological weapons, a U.N. official said Sunday.
