County Attorney Gets Jail Term, Loses Office

Associated Press

Lincoln County Attorney Charles Sprinkle was sentenced to 10 days in jail Wednesday for disorderly conduct and stripped of office, at least temporarily.

Justice of the Peace Bob Beitz of Thompson Falls also ordered Sprinkle to pay a $100 fine and make restitution to Roben Hilton for a doctor’s exam she had after Sprinkle hit her in the face at the Mint Bar last February. And he ordered Sprinkle to undergo a chemical dependency evaluation, all within 30 days.

Beitz said Sprinkle must serve his sentence in jail and he would not grant work release.

Before sentencing, the judge lectured Sprinkle on why publicly elected officials must abide a higher standard. He said people expect a county attorney, or a sheriff for example, to not act like the people they often deal with.

Beitz said Sprinkle is stripped of office for the duration of his sentence, including the dependency evaluation.

Deputy County Attorney Bernie Cassidy will be acting county attorney.
