So, It Won’t Be Sweep Seattle Gives Fans Reason For Hope In Decisive Victory

Knight-Ridder

Destiny was derailed, run off the tracks by a group of players who for three games couldn’t seem to get in anybody’s way but their own. The Seattle SuperSonics beat the Chicago Bulls Wednesday night. Beat ‘em good.

The NBA title was there for Chicago’s taking. The Bulls wanted a sweep?

They got it: The Sonics swept them off the court.

Seattle won, 107-86, and suddenly, the NBA Finals looks like a series worth following. The Sonics still trail 3-1, but their victory was so convincing, they might get it inside their stubborn heads they can win a few more. Don’t they know they are getting in the way of history?

The Sonics took obvious delight in delaying plans for Chicago’s title celebration. Some Bulls had post-game plans to party with the rock group Pearl Jam at a Seattle club.

Game 5 will be in Seattle on Friday night.
