Daily Doses Of Fish Oil Helps Crohn’s Disease

Compiled From Wire Services

Taking daily doses of fish oil that contains omega-3 fatty acids may help stave off relapses of Crohn’s disease, a painful inflammation of the lining of the intestines.

In a new study of 78 Crohn’s patients in remission published Thursday in the New England Journal, Italian researchers found that 2.7 grams of fish oil daily reduced the rate of relapse.

After one year, nearly 60 percent of patients taking the capsules were relapse-free, compared to a quarter of those taking a placebo.
