If You Can’t Find It In The Library …

Boston Globe

“Our Bodies, Ourselves,” the 700-page bible of women’s health issues, went on line Tuesday - 25 years after evolutionizing women’s self-education.

The full text of the book, including diagrams, will be available at http://www.healthgate.com through the efforts of a partnership between Somerville-based Boston Women’s Health Book Collective and HealthGate Corp., a Malden-based on-line medical database company.

After paying a $30 annual fee, users will be able to learn about toxic shock syndrome, in vitro fertilization and breast implants. Users will also be able to post questions to nurse practitioners who will be able to answer their concerns on line.

Going on line is the latest frontier for a book that has attacked the taboos of women’s sexuality with vigor. Since its inception, “Our Bodies, Ourselves” has sold four million copies and been translated into 15 languages. A CD-ROM version is expected in 1997.
