Lesbians Can’t Adopt Each Other’s Child

Compiled From Wire Services

A lesbian couple can’t adopt each other’s child, the Colorado Court of Appeals ruled Thursday. The court said under Colorado law the couple must be married to adopt each other’s children.

Colorado does not recognize same-sex marriages.

Each woman is the natural mother of a child, conceived with the aid of an anonymous sperm donor.

They asked the court to give parental rights to their partner, just as in an adoption by a stepparent.

Colorado law does not bar homosexuals from adopting children, but the ruling - which could be appealed to the Colorado Supreme Court - bars them from adopting as couples.
