Bland Shares Lead As He Bids For 4th Senior Tour Victory

Compiled From Wire Services

John Bland shot a 5-under-par 65 Friday to gain a share of the lead at 7-under 133 in the $1.1 million Canadian Senior Open at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ancaster, Ontario.

“I got off to a wonderful start with four birdies in the first five holes,” Bland said. “I just hope I can start like that again (today), but I won’t worry about it.”

Bland shares the lead with Larry Mowry, the first-round leader, who carded a 67 Friday.

Bland is in contention to win his fourth event since joining the Senior Tour last September, when he turned 50.

Donna Andrews continued her comeback from a nagging back injury with a 7-under-par 65, one shot off the tournament record, to take the first-round lead in the Edina Realty LPGA Classic at Brooklyn Park, Minn.

Andrews, winless since 1994, had seven birdies and no bogeys to match the best round of her career and take a two-shot lead over Liselotte Neumann, who has finished first and tied for third the last two years on the 6,141-yard layout at Edinburgh USA Golf Course.

Stephanie Maynor overcame a triple-bogey at No. 17, where she twice hit into water, to finish three shots back at 68, tied with Jean Bartholomew and Jane Geddes.
