A 31-year-old Spokane woman was killed in Sunday’s one-car wreck near Long Lake, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Caryle L. Nielsen-Sligar died after her husband, Todd D. Sligar, also 31, lost control of the family car and smashed into a tree, troopers said.
Sligar, who witnesses said smelled of alcohol, is being investigated for driving under the influence, troopers said. He bruised a lung in the wreck and was able to walk away from the car.
The couple’s two children also were injured in the crash.
Tara Lynn Sligar, 7, sustained abdominal injuries and abrasions. Michael Nielsen, 12, had head and internal injuries.
Both were taken to Deaconess Medical Center, where Tara Sligar was in stable condition and Michael Nielsen was listed in critical condition Monday.
The wreck occurred about 8:20 p.m. on a gravel road near the Nine Mile Dam. No one was wearing a seat belt, and Nielsen-Sligar and the two children had to be cut out of the car.
