Two Escape Burning Boat

Two people leaped from a burning boat moments before it exploded Monday night on Sacheen Lake. The 17-foot fiberglass boat exploded and sank to the bottom of the lake about 8:55 p.m., Pend Oreille County sheriff’s dispatcher Darlin Sanchez said.

Neither of the people aboard the boat was injured. The sheriff’s office did not release the identity of the boaters.

Sheriff’s deputies are not sure what started the fire, but Sanchez said the boaters reported having engine trouble.
