Wellpinit Man Killed In Rollover

A 20-year-old Wellpinit, Wash., man died Monday morning in a one-car accident in Stevens County.

Derwin Atene was driving east along Ford-Wellpinit Road about 7:10 a.m. when he lost control of his car at Blue Creek Campground Road, about eight miles west of Wellpinit.

The car slid off the road, which curved to the left, and rolled several times. Atene, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, said Washington State Patrol troopers who investigated the crash.

Excessive speed caused the accident, troopers said.
