Dollar Sinks To 3-Week Low Vs. Yen

The dollar slumped to a nearly 3-week low against the yen and 2-month low against the mark Tuesday, weakened by news of a strengthening Japanese economy.

The selling was exacerbated by signs of economic weakness in the U.S. as well as a rising demand for marks, reflecting a growing belief that the German central bank won’t reduce interest rates any further.

Traders said most of the dollar weakness came early in the day after Japan’s Economic Planning Agency said the economy grew at an annual rate of 12.7 percent in the first quarter.
