F-18 Crashes During Test Maneuvers
An F-18 fighter jet crashed and burned in a residential area Wednesday, apparently while being put through a test flight by the manufacturer.
The fire department and coroner were on the scene, but there was no immediate confirmation of any injuries or deaths.
Gene Siglock said the plane went down two blocks from his home.
Mayor Bill Stephenson said rescue crews told him the jet was a refurbished plane being tested by McDonnell Douglas Corp. of St. Louis. It went down in an unincorporated area west of the city, the mayor said.
“There are some homes in that area,” Stephenson said. “It’s a retrofitted aircraft. They bring one over once in a while and put it through some tests.”
