Ex-Idaho Star Mills Signs With Chargers

Former University of Idaho offensive tackle Jim Mills signed a two-year contract with the San Diego Chargers on Thursday, becoming the first player from the 1996 draft to come to terms with the team.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Mills is the first of two players chosen in the sixth round by the Chargers and the 190th player chosen overall in the 1996 NFL draft.

Wrestling trials on TV

The U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestling trials, held two weeks ago at the Spokane Arena, will be shown this month on both ESPN cable stations .

ESPN2 will show the trials on Saturday at 6 p.m., while ESPN will show the event on June 29 at 9 a.m.

Each broadcast will last 1 hour.

Legion baseball

The Knights of Richland (Wash.) defeated Brown’s Mountain (Coeur d’Alene) by a score of 5-4 at Richland on Thursday in the Scott Klaudt Memorial Tournament.

In spite of the loss, Brown’s Mountain’s Jim Gewalt threw a complete-game four-hitter and allowed just two earned runs. Also for Brown’s, Kurt Smidt wient 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
