Men May Have Been Together When Shot Near Mattawa

Adam Lynn Staff Writer

Grant County authorities believe two men who were shot near Mattawa, Wash., last weekend were together when they were attacked.

Jose Valencia-Salgado died Sunday on a road outside Mattawa. He had been shot in the head.

Oscar Perez was still in critical condition Thursday at Providence Hospital in Yakima. Perez was shot once in the back and once in the head.

Grant County authorities at first were unsure if the shootings were related.

A wounded Perez showed up at the house of a Mattawa firefighter about 9:30 p.m. Sunday seeking help.

He told authorities he had been shot during a robbery but was unable to provide other details before being rushed to the hospital.

A motorist discovered ValenciaSalgado’s body about two hours later near his car.

Investigators have no suspects in the attack on the two men. Anyone with information is asked to call the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, (509) 754-2011, Extension 468.
