Compiled From Wire Services

Jimmy Vasser edged Michael Andretti for the provisional pole during qualifying for the Budweiser-G.I. Joe 200 at Portland International Raceway.

Vasser has won four races and Andretti three, including the last two, in the eight IndyCar stops thus far.

Vasser had an average lap speed of 116.541 mph on the 1.95-mile, nine-turn road course. Andretti’s best was 116.430 mph.

David Green knocked his younger brother Mark off the pole in qualifying for today’s Carolina Pride-Advance Auto 250 NASCAR Busch Grand National stock car race at Myrtle Beach Speedway at Myrtle Beach, Fla.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will make his NASCAR Busch Grand National debut from the seventh position. But Indianapolis 500 polesitter Tony Stewart was one of five drivers bumped from the field in time trials.

Spokane’s Chad Little qualified 24th.
