Tornado Rips Roofs, Knocks Out Power

Associated Press

A tornado skipped across northern Virginia’s densely populated suburbs on Monday, ripping roofs off homes, toppling hundreds of trees and leaving thousands of people without electricity.

There were no serious injuries.

Meteorologist Jim Decarufel at the National Weather Service said the “weak” tornado followed a 10-mile path from Centreville to Fairfax.

The storm knocked out power to more than 200,000 customers at one point in Washington, D.C., and its suburbs in Virginia and Maryland.
