Woman Questioned About Abandoned Baby

Compiled From Wire Services

A 20-year-old University of Washington student was arrested Monday in the abandonment of a newborn baby in a trash can at a McDonald’s parking lot.

Police believe the woman gave birth to a full-term baby boy in a McDonald’s restroom, then wrapped the child in paper and plastic and dumped it in the trash can.

The baby was found about 7:30 a.m. Monday, shortly after his birth, police said.

The baby, who had a fractured skull, was in intensive care Monday at Children’s Hospital in Seattle. He was in serious but stable condition, hospital spokesman Dean Forbes said.

Jean C. Yi, of Kent, was arrested Monday afternoon on the UW campus in Seattle for investigation of attempted murder and criminal mistreatment of a child, Tukwila Assistant Police Chief Keith Haines said.
