Dole Sidesteps Clinton’s Woes

Compiled From Wire Services

Bob Dole kept a buttoned lip on the menu of White House woes as he campaigned across Texas on Friday yet appeared confident that the ethical spotlight ultimately would singe President Clinton.

“I’m running for president, not prosecutor,” Dole said, when asked about his refusal to comment on the White House collection of FBI files and the first lady’s meetings with a psychic researcher. “I don’t see any real reason for me to be involved in that.”

Dole added voters would rather see him “go after the record, the vetoes, and talk about trust.”

He also noted that other Republicans were keeping Clinton’s troubles at the fore, saying, “We’ve got committees investigating. We’ve got other people speaking out.”
