Director Vance George Guest At Choral Fest

Travis Rivers

Spokane will be a hotbed of choral music when the American Choral Directors Association holds its Northwest Division meeting here next week. The public concerts begin Thursday at St. John’s Cathedral with a “Choral Spectacular” featuring individual performances by choirs from Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University, Spokane Falls Community College and Whitworth College. The four choirs will combine with the Spokane Symphony to perform Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms.” Guest conductor for the Stravinsky work is 1996 Grammy Award winner Vance George, director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorale.

Other choral events include a jazz choral program at the Ridpath Hotel following Thursday night’s Cathedral performance, a performance by the 80-voice collegiate Masterworks Chorale at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral on March 8 and a March 9 concert by four honor student choirs.
