Lakeside Moves On After Beating Ilwaco

Lakeside scored a 60-51 victory on Thursday over Ilwaco to advance to the semifinals of the State A boys basketball tournament.

The Eagles (17-8) face Zillah (23-2) tonight at 8 in the Tacoma Dome.

Lakeside sank six free throws in the final 2 minutes to break open a close game.

The Eagles actually trailed 47-45 with 4 minutes, 52 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

George Petticrew then sank two baskets and Josh Miller added another to put the Eagles up 52-47.

Petticrew finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He hit 10 of 15 from the floor, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

Miller scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Nick Oman topped Ilwaco with 16 points.

Bryce Ford added 11.

Kings 66, Chewelah 56

The nailbiting loss to Omak on Wednesday took its toll on Chewelah.

The Cougars, one of the pre-tournament favorites, must take a disappointing trip back to Chewelah without a trophy.

King’s knocked Chewelah out with a 66-56 win Thursday morning.

Chewelah trailed by just one heading into the fourth quarter, but the Cougars missed their first four shots of the period.

Paul Hiemstra made four straight free throws to give the Knights a 55-49 lead with 4:12 remaining.

That theme of Chewelah misses and King’s made free throws continued.

The Cougars made just four shots in the fourth, three were in the paint and the other was a Greg Belzer 3-pointer. King’s made just three field goals in the fourth, but connected on 11 of 15 free throws.

King’s made 25 of 35 free throws for the game while Chewelah connected on just 6 of 16.

Travis Teeple did most of the damage for the Knights with 17 points.

Travis Graham and Tyler Teeple added 14 each and Hiemstra added 11 points and 10 rebounds for King’s

Steve Murbach and Belzer each scored 11 for Chewelah.

Chris Boone chipped in 10. Jeremy Landram, who came in with a 19.3 average, scored just seven points, but did have nine assists.
