A-3

Senior guard David Fiscus was high-point player with 20 points and five 3-point casts to carry Potlatch past Soda Springs 83-65 at the Idaho A-3 boys high school basketball tournament.

Earlier, junior center Kaleb Kunz scored 32 points as defending champion Teton crushed Fruitland 82-57. Austin Tubbs led the way with 19 points as Malad outran Declo 68-49 at Skyline High School.

Junior center Matt Hill was the only player to hit double figures as Grangeville ground down Homedale 50-39.

Top-ranked Teton (25-0) plays No. 2 Malad (23-1) in a championship semifinal game on Friday, while Fruitland (18-7) faces Declo (16-7) in a loser-out consolation game.

No. 5 Potlatch (19-4) had to gear down in the fourth quarter as Brad Nicholson and Jacob Vowels both had drawn four fouls each. The Cardinals (16-10) started to press the Loggers, but Potlatch patiently worked around them to clinch the game.

Senior forward Greg Jolley led the Cardinals with 15 points, while junior forward Cliff Strupp had 14.

Teton trailed Fruitland 41-40 at halftime of their tournament opener. But Kaleb Kunz scored 20 of his 32 points after intermission and the Redskins’ full-court press and trapping defense forced the Grizzlies into poor shot selection.

They also out-rebounded Fruitland 35-18, led by junior center Kelly Nead with 15 boards. Nead also scored 19 points and Mike Kunz added 15 for Teton.

Fruitland was paced by Jeremy Yraguen with 17 points. Matt Osburn and Willie Lake had 15 each for the Grizzlies.
