Compiled From Wire Services

Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, whose fight to move his team to Los Angeles 16 years ago cleared the way for all subsequent franchise moves, is suing the NFL again, saying the league with help from Baltimore team owner Art Modell - forced him out of Southern California by hindering a deal for a new stadium in L.A.

Former Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Merlin Olsen has been named the 1996 recipient of the Ernie Davis Award, given annually to a football great whose work off the field most exemplifies the fallen star’s ideals.

A day after losing out on Quentin Coryatt, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Houston Oilers linebacker Eddie Robinson to a four-year contract worth $10.4 million.

Ty Detmer, the former Heisman Trophy winner, who has appeared in just five games in four seasons with Green Bay, has signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles and is expected to battle for the starting job with Rodney Peete.

In a move to improve one of the NFL’s most vulnerable defenses, the Atlanta Falcons landed five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Cornelius Bennett of Buffalo.

The St. Louis Rams added some defensive punch by landing free-agent defensive end Leslie O’Neal of San Diego.
