Dollar Stays In Middle

The dollar finished lower against most major currencies Monday, but rose against the German mark where the economy looked weaker than in Japan.

The dollar was caught in the middle, dropping against the strengthening Japanese yen and gaining against the battered mark.

“Primarily today, we are seeing Deutsche mark weakness against the yen,” said Daniel O’Connell, a vice president for foreign exchange marketing at First National Bank of Chicago.
