Golden State Loses Mullin For Season

Associated Press

NBA

Golden State’s Chris Mullin will miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament in his finger in a game against the New York Knicks.

Mullin tore the radial collateral ligament in his right little finger, the same injury that sidelined him 20 games of the 1993-94 season. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday in San Francisco.

The injury occurred Sunday when Mullin’s right hand got caught on Anthony Mason’s waistband during the third quarter of Golden State’s 109-94 loss at New York.

It’s the latest setback for Mullin, whose career with the Warriors has been wracked with injuries.

He missed time last season because of knee problems and a series of blackout spells.

Mullin, averaging 13.3 points a game, sounded optimistic about his injury as he left Madison Square Garden with his hand wrapped.

“It’s just one of those things,” he said. “It’s frustrating, but I just take it all in stride. I’ve been through a lot worse.”

Terrell Brandon, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ leading scorer, will miss two weeks because of a bruised tail bone and sprained right rotator cuff. Also, starting shooting guard Bobby Phills will be out for a week because of a bruised leg and sprained knee, and rarely used guard Harold Miner will undergo surgery Thursday for an inflamed right knee… .
