Training Clinics Scheduled For 20th Annual Bloomsday

Bloomsday is two months away, but the training starts now. A series of training clinics will help runners tune up for the 20th annual Lilac Bloomsday Run.

Free sessions at West Central Community Center kick off this weekend.

The clinic, sponsored by Holy Family Hospital, Group Health Northwest and Sta-Fit, includes sessions on nutrition, injury prevention and motivation.

The training sessions are held at 8:30 a.m. each Saturday through April 27 at the center, 1603 N. Belt.

Participants should check in and pick up their free training packets at the first session between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. For information, call 482-2356.

Training clinics at the YWCA and YMCA already have started, but it’s not too late to register.

Sessions at the YWCA, 829 W. Broadway, are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost is $30 for members. Non-members can attend for a $10 drop-in fee per session. Clinics for varying skill levels are available. For information, call 326-1190, ext. 115.

Ten-week training clinics at the YMCA cost $15 for members and $40 for non-members. The fee, which includes a T-shirt, will be prorated for people joining late. The clinics, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, also are broken down by skill level. For information, call 838-3577, ext. 25.

The Idaho Road Runners starts its training sessions on Saturday. For information, call (208) 687-1097.

Runners can get additional training at a “Spring Breakaway” 5K fun run that starts at 9 a.m. April 6 at Sta-Fit, at 8707 N. Division.

The fee is $10 and includes a T-shirt. For information, call 467-1500.
