Jonrowe Leads Iditarod

Compiled From Wire Services

Dee Dee Jonrowe, taking a 24-hour rest at an abandoned mining camp, led the Iditarod Sled Dog Race nearly halfway through the 1,150-mile trek to Nome.

Jonrowe, who has completed 12 Iditarods but has yet to win, was preparing for her next run, a 172-mile trip to Ruby.

Three former champions were taking their 24-hour layovers in Takotna, 38 miles back: Jeff King, Martin Buser and Doug Swingley.
