Man Injured In Clash At Party

One man was injured in a fight early Sunday between gang members and partygoers.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, deputies found a 25-year-old man bleeding from the head and lying on the living room floor of a house in the Spokane Valley. Lt. David Wiyrick, sheriff’s department spokesman, said nearly 25 people were running in and out of the house in the 400 block of South Chronicle Road.

Shawn Hughes had been punched, kicked and hit with a beer bottle during a fight with a group of men who were trying to steal a keg of beer from the house, Wiyrick said.

Hughes was taken to Valley Hospital and Medical Center. He was treated for a cut over his left eye and a swollen right eye and released.

Several other men who joined the fight to help Hughes also were injured. None required medical attention.

Deputies said members of the group who tried to steal the beer are gang members. Witnesses said they fled after the fight in a maroon, mid-1980s Ford Thunderbird.

Another witness told deputies a man in a white Buick Regal was waving a handgun around in front of the house. The man with the gun was described as 5-foot-11 and 250 to 300 pounds.

Suspect fights deputy

A Valley man deputies stopped for a traffic violation early Saturday injured a deputy before he was arrested for drunk driving and assault.

Deputy Dale Golman stopped a car near Empire Avenue and Butler Road about 2 a.m. because sparks were flying from its muffler, which was dragging on the ground, Wiyrick said.

Golman checked the driver’s record with a radio dispatcher and discovered Michael Dale Noble, 34, was wanted on two arrest warrants. When Golman tried to arrest Noble, he ran, Wiyrick said.

The deputy chased and tackled Noble, who then shoved and tried to punch him, Wiyrick said. Golman managed to pin Noble to the ground and hold him until a second deputy could handcuff him.

Noble, who gave his address as 1021 N. MacArthur, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and the two warrants. He also was cited for driving while his license is revoked.

Golman was treated at Valley Hospital and Medical Center for injuries to his hand, forearm and knees, and released.
