Legislation banning possession of an open beer container by motorists statewide has been sent to the Senate for a final vote.
The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday unanimously endorsed the House-passed bill that imposes the same restrictions on beer that currently exist for wine and liquor.
For many years we’ve made the statement that you don’t drink and drive,” State Police Superintendent Ed Strickfaden said.
“This reinforces that message.”
A number of cities have imposed their own local open container beer bans but it has created a patchwork of ordinances around the state.
