WSU At Southern California

The Cougars (15-10 overall, 7-9 Pacific-10 Conference) hope to keep their postseason tournament hopes alive with a win over the Trojans (11-17, 4-12). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

At a glance: The Trojans have been in disarray since the firing of coach Charlie Parker at midseason. They have lost eight in row and became only the second Pac-10 team to lose to lowly Oregon State when they were knocked off in Corvallis last weekend. WSU, on the other hand, has won six of its last eight. The Cougars haven’t said as much publicly, but they believe a sweep of the Los Angeles schools this week might be enough to get them in the NCAA tournament. With an 8-2 finish and only six losses with Mark Hendrickson in the lineup, they might be able to make a case. But a road sweep is hardly likely, considering WSU hasn’t won a regular-season game in L.A. since 1986 (a 77-75 win over USC). The Cougars have lost 14 of their last 15 games at USC and they have never beaten UCLA at Pauley Pavilion, the site of Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. regular-season finale.
