Bomb Explodes Near Defense Office

Compiled From Wire Services

A bomb exploded in a trash bin on a busy west London thoroughfare early Saturday, and suspicion immediately fell on the Irish Republican Army.

The device detonated without warning at 12:38 a.m. at the entrance to a cemetery on Old Brompton Road, several hundred yards from a building with Ministry of Defense offices, said police superintendent Peter Rice.

Rice said there were no reports of injuries.
