Ewu Announces 4-Year Guarantee

From Staff And Wire Reports

Eastern Washington University announced it is the first public institution in the state to offer a guarantee that students will be able to graduate within four years.

Dozens of degrees are included in the “Finish in Four” guarantee program.

Washington State University is considering a similar guarantee.

This is a new twist in higher education designed to overcome a complaint that college can take five to six years to finish because of complex requirements, and a lack of necessary classes.

Students must declare a major at the start of their first quarter, and agree to take a minimum number of credit hours each quarter.

If the students take required classes according to a schedule, then the university will make sure they are admitted to classes when they need to take them.

If they don’t finish degrees in four years, EWU is prepared to pay tuition for any extra quarters of classes, officials said.

The guarantee goes into effect this fall for incoming freshmen. It is available through the academic departments and admissions office.
