Man Guilty In Deaths Of Japanese Students
A man was convicted Wednesday of killing two students from Japan during a 1994 carjacking in a supermarket parking lot.
Raymond Oscar Butler, 20, could face the death penalty. A sentencing hearing was scheduled for Tuesday.
Takuma Ito and Go Matsuura, both 19, were leaving a restaurant when they were shot in the back of the head on March 25, 1994. Ito’s 1994 Honda Civic was stolen.
Ito, a Japanese citizen, and Matsuura, a U.S. citizen raised in Japan, were students at Marymount College in nearby Rancho Palos Verdes.
Another defendant, Alberto Raygoza, 20, is serving a 32-month sentence after pleading no contest to receiving stolen property and being an accessory after the fact in a robbery.
