Post Falls Students Win Stock Market Game

Leisa Coulter and Maggie Hodl, Post Falls High School students recently won the Region I North Division in the 1995 Stock Market Game. The students, working with adviser Dave Corbeill, used a $100,000 theoretical investment and earned nearly $125,000 over a 10-week period using actual daily transactions on the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ.

The Region I competition, made up of 150 teams, was sponsored by the Idaho Council of Economic Education and judged at Boise State University. There were approximately 1,000 state teams with more than a half million students participating nationwide.

Local University of Idaho students were recently honored for their achievements in association with Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound Math/Science, Student Support Services and Upward Bound. Students, assisting programs, and their hometowns are listed:

Shasta Radmacher, freshman secondary education major and daughter of Robert Radmacher of Hayden Lake, won the Educational Talent Search Academic Excellence Award.

Cathie Sholl, Moscow, senior recreation major, won the Student Support Services Outstanding Academic Achievement award.

Gina Weir, freshman special education major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Weir of Post Falls, won the Educational Talent Search Academic Excellence Award.

Lucinda Luke, a University of Idaho law student, recently advanced to the oral competition of the seventh annual Raymond C. McNichols Moot Court Competition.

The competition begins with 35 students preparing briefs, with 15 being selected for oral competition. Oral competitors argue their cases before a panel of judges and attorneys.

Several local University of Idaho students, along with their adviser and professor of mechanical engineering, Dean Edwards, competed in the Arizona Public Service Company and Electric Vehicle Technology Competition in Glendale, Ariz., earlier this month. Students and their hometowns are listed: Coeur d’Alene:

Jerry Gradwahl and Jay Lopes. Sandpoint: Shawn Riff. Athol: Nick Peck. Moscow: Joa Harrison, Joe Lyon and Yancy Wright.

The team won first-place honors in the 20- and 40-kilometer races and set a new hybrid electric vehicle record of 18.55 seconds during the competition.
