Dollar Gains Vs. Yen, Mark

The dollar finished up against the German mark and Japanese yen Thursday following a lethargic trading session largely unaffected by new U.S. economic data.

The dollar finished mixed against other currencies. Its rise against the German and Japanese currencies came as U.S. stock and bond markets remained steady for the second straight day after several sessions of volatility.

By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar was quoted at 105.50 Japanese yen, up from 105.10 yen late Wednesday, and 1.4708 German marks, up from 1.4703.
