Snake River Crash Kills Colfax Man

From Staff Reports

A 29-year-old Colfax man died when his car left the road and landed in the Snake River about 20 miles south of Colfax, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.

Kerry Klay Bohlmann suffered severe head injuries and likely was dead before he was thrown from the car into the river at Granite Point about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Coroner Pete Martin said.

Bohlmann’s body was recovered in about 7-1/2 feet of water by a member of the Spokane County Water Rescue Team.

Two sightseers who saw Bohlmann’s car leave Wawawai Road and fly off an embankment called authorities from a nearby residence.

Results of blood tests weren’t available, but Martin’s autopsy report said there is a “high probability” Bohlmann had been drinking. He apparently was not wearing a seat belt.

“Had he had a seat belt on, the evidence is he might have got right out of it,” said Sgt. Jeff Lavey of the Whitman County sheriff’s office.
